RATING: 3/5 BUT, having finished the sequels I must say that THEY ARE WAY BETTER (reviews coming pretty soon. What supposed to lead to a super climax built up to a very flat ending in my opinion. The novelty element is there but the storyline consistence is confusing. Usually I love first novels in a series because we get introduced to their world, its novelty and mystery. My main complain about this first novel in the series is the main storyline. They don’t follow the same manners nor rules as us so some may even seem very mature. They are all children but the fact that they each lived in different worlds makes them unique and kind of odd. We also have a headmistress, a kindhearted old lady who wants to help her students move on and adapt to this life. I really don’t want to spoil anything but what I can say is, it feels a lot like Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children meets Narnia. The stories are about a bunch of children who lived in different worlds until a door opens and they have to return to present day and live in this boring normal universe in a school. The prologue hooked me up right away, Seanan McGuirewriting style is absolutely entrancing. But on the other side, the magical lands have very little need for the used-up miracle children.When I first see the cover of Every Heart A Doorway, I told myself aww this looks like a cute little romantic book you know ! OH HOW WRONG I WAS.
On top of that, it was also seen that they tumble right down the rabbit holes and then into the old wells while emerging from some other place. They used to slip through the shadows maybe under a bed or right at the back of a wardrobe. The narration was a bit off-putting and didn’t do justice to the characters and the story of this book.Ĭhildren were known to have disappeared always under the right or expected conditions. If you want to know about a few more exciting books by the author then Backpacking Through Bedlam is the one for you. She is known for writing urban fantasy novels and has done quite well in that zone. It is the first chapter in the Wayward Children novel series which is written by Seanan McGuire. Every heart a Doorway is a contemporary fantasy novel.
